Wikimedia User Group the Gambia

To: Wikimedia Affiliates and the Global Wikimedia Community
Dear Wikimedia Affiliates and Community Members,
We are excited to announce our intent to form the Wikimedia User Group the Gambia, a new Wikimedia user group dedicated to promoting free knowledge and strengthening Wikimedia projects within the Gambia.
- Mission
- Our mission is to raise awareness, foster community participation, and enhance the quality and quantity of free knowledge related to the Gambia on Wikimedia platforms. We aim to engage local communities, institutions, and individuals in contributing to Wikimedia projects through capacity-building initiatives, content creation, and collaborative partnerships.
- Focus Area
- Our group will primarily focus on:
- Languages: English and Gambian languages such as Mandinka, Wolof, and Fula.
- Themes: Gambian history, culture, notable figures, settlements, and heritage preservation.
- Geographical Region: Based in The Gambia, we aim to engage contributors across the country while collaborating with the broader Wikimedia movement.
- Current Location and Regional Activities
- We are currently based in the Gambia and are working towards building a vibrant Wikimedia community through outreach, edit-a-thons, and workshops. We plan to collaborate with local institutions, libraries, and cultural organizations to ensure diverse participation and sustainable contributions.
- Call for Collaboration
- We welcome collaboration and support from other affiliates and individuals across the Wikimedia movement. We believe that working together with other user groups and affiliates will enhance our efforts and strengthen the global Wikimedia ecosystem.
