Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Our diversity, equity, and inclusion work is global, people centered, and connected to the movement we exist to serve. We work towards redistributing power and dismantling barriers that result from structural systems of oppression and injustice, while helping to promote greater access, participation, and belonging among staff and the larger Wikimedia movement.

Many organizations have a definition of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion that guides their work. For us:

  • Diversity is about the variety of identities represented in our movement, workforce, departments and teams. We intentionally focus on those identities, both inherent and socialized, that have or continue to experience direct or structural discrimination, exclusion or oppression across the globe.
  • Equity is about fair access to resources and opportunities for people by identifying and mitigating barriers.
  • Inclusion is about the intentional actions that give all people, and especially those who are excluded, meaningful representation in planning and decision making.
