The Wikimedia Foundation Advancement department ensures the Wikimedia movement has the relationships and resources it needs to thrive. The department is responsible for fundraising, partnerships, grantmaking and programs that fuel our movement.
The Community Growth team supports the volunteers and affiliates of the Wikimedia movement to achieve the movement's strategic goals, with a particular focus on advancing Knowledge Equity.
Our work is organized into four main areas: funding and collaborative grantmaking (Community Resources), campaigns and programmatic work (Community Programs), capacity development and peer learning (Community Development), and partnership development (Partnerships).
The Community Resources subteam supports the Affiliates and contributors of the Wikimedia Movement by offering institutional and individual funding to help achieve the Movement’s goals.
The Partnerships subteam supports the Wikimedia Foundation and the Affiliates of the Wikimedia Movement to develop and maintain strategic relationships with external partners.
The Wikimedia Foundation Fundraising team cultivates the resources that propel our movement. We engage millions of people from countries across the globe to support Wikipedia and its sister projects. The overwhelming majority of the Foundation's funding comes from individual readers from all over the world giving an average of $11.
Donations help the Wikimedia Foundation maintain server infrastructure, improve the software that supports our projects, and make Wikipedia and its sister projects accessible globally to millions of people. For additional information, please see the 2022–2023 Fundraising Report.
