Bachelor or master's thesis in "exotic" language

Hello! I have received a request to upload a bachelor's thesis in Danish language. The topic is interesting, is educational and can be classified as "original research". It is therefore not welcome on any Wikipedia. It would be welcome at Wikiversity, but no Danish Wikiversity exists and should probably not exist yet. beta.wikiversity.org (incubator for Wikiversity in new languages) does not allow for file upload. See discussion at en.wikiversity.org ([1]). What Wikimedia project can I recommend the author for her thesis? Commons? Nillerdk 10:12, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Danish Wikisource. Ruslik 15:59, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, but isn't Wikisource for texts earlier published elsewhere? It doesn't say explicitly in the Danish edition but in the English it reads Works created by Wikisource users or otherwise not published in a verifiable, usually peer-reviewed forum do not belong at Wikisource ([2]). So a bachelor thesis in English would not fit at en.wikisource.org. Do you still think, at Danish bachelor thesis fits at da.wikisource.org ?Nillerdk 19:56, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
If the thesis was defended successfully then it was published "in a verifiable, usually peer-reviewed forum". Though, you should ask on Danish Wikisource. Ruslik 12:31, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

5 pillars violation in russian language Wikipedia

Hi, is there a way to make an article in russian language Wikipedia to comply with its WP:LIVE, WP:OR, and other WP:5 rules? There are editors who keep adding poorly sourced and unsourced material to articles, which also contain negative information about living persons thus violating WP:LIVE. Issues were discussed numerous times there, administrators are weak to respond for various reasons including they prefer not to get involved into "hot" topics and suggest a route of "mediation" instead of rules enforcement. Please let me know where to ask to get advice. Thanks - windyhead 20:04, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

No, such a way does not exist, nor does it in any other language version of Wikipedia. Guido den Broeder 23:04, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Global sysops discussion

Ahoy all! I wanted to invite everyone to join us to discuss the Global_sysops proposal currently under discussion on its talk page. We seem to have a consensus among those commenting in favor but in order to make this work need to get a larger discussion going and hopefully some translations and notices out to other wikis especially the small wiki's that would be effected. Custom article backgrounds?

Hi , is there a way to add custom article backgrounds using a template? for example : for article "1" I want a red background I type {{bg-red}} for article 2 i want blue background --> {{bg-blue}} If not , can it be done in the skin's CSS file? Also i have some basic knowledge of both wiki template code and css

Yes, just create the template and use it. To learn more about templates, visit the MediaWiki wiki. Guido den Broeder 09:46, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

English Wikitravel

Does anyone think that it is to strict or complicated for readers and writers and really there should be a simpilar wikitravel. Seabanks 14:16, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Please note that Wikitravel is not a Wikimedia Foundation project, so such a question should be asked locally. Thanks, –Juliancolton | Talk 14:18, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Locally? where? could you direct me there? Seabanks 14:22, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Request for blocking

I have an IP user who has caused significant disruption across more than one project, and I believe should be globally blocked. Where do I make a request? Specifically see this; the said user was already permablocked on en.wp. Magog the Ogre 16:35, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

You can do that here. Regards, Wutsje 16:38, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Strange behavior of nl.wikt

I was trying to edit the page "delfstof" at nl.wikt. Even though other pages can be edited, for this one my edits are not accepted. Seems like there is a server problem and I do not know where to report that. Jcwf 17:51, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Creating a portal namespace and FA stars

Hi, I'm an admin on the Cornish Wikipedia (kw) and there are two features not currently available that I would like to implement there:

  1. A Portal namespace. This would be Porth in Cornish. Where do I go to request the creation of this?
  2. The FA stars next to interwiki links don't work, even though an FA-intweriki template is in use. How do I get this working?

Many thanks --Kw-Moon 13:23, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
ad.1: You need to request that at bugzilla:
ad.2: You need to add the class, which the template style uses to the CSS, for example:
li.FA {
    list-style-image: url("http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d4/Monobook-bullet-star.png");
}
to kw:MediaWiki:Monobook.css (and if You wish that the pages are added to the category [[Category:Skantlyns|{{PAGENAME}}]] this needs to stand before <noinclude> begins)
and this (taken from enwiki) to kw:MediaWiki:Monobook.js, then clear the cache to see it working.
Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 05:46, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
FA stars work, thank you. --Kw-Moon 14:44, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
