Knowledge Equity - We’d like to learn from your experiences![edit]
Since last fall, staff at Wikimedia Germany has been examining our programs and practices in the context of 2030 Movement Strategy, to see to what extent activities should change, discontinue or new ones should start. One of the two pillars of our movement’s 2030 Strategic Direction is knowledge equity. But what does it mean? So Wikimedia Germany’s Education, Science and Culture Team has started to think about knowledge equity in relation to open knowledge. We would like to better understand the manifold aspects of how the objectives of knowledge equity and open knowledge intersect, go hand in hand or produce tension - and how this might impact our joint work.
We would like to invite you - people from communities, affiliates, scholars, volunteers, editors - to share experiences and perspectives from your engagement with, and work on knowledge equity. We will review all the contributions and then share thoughts on next steps around knowledge equity theory and practices.

Wiki Loves Bahia |

During a whole year, we recenter some of our major programs in Brazil around empowering and strengthening the Wikimedia community from a hitherto marginalized and under-represented Brazilian state. Our first program of this kind has been with the state of Bahia, in 2021. Activities have included: capacity building for local communities, GLAM partnerships, state-wide education programs for public schools and universities, online events, wikicontests. We have had a particular focus on African-Brazilian groups in Bahia. |
The program is not over yet, so it is not well documented yet. A periodic newsletter is published (in Portuguese). An early video on the GLAM gap is available, from a presentation at the CC Summit in 2020. There is also a video for the launching of Wiki Loves Bahia (in Portuguese).

Knowing that many of the readers of the English languge Wikipedia are non English speakers using machine translation, I am correcting easily confused words on EN Wiki so that translation has a better chance of working. |

Language is one of the core values of people and the identity of any nation. Nigeria has over 520 languages, and only three(3) are tutored in school and use for commercial purposes, making the rest of the language exposing the remaining languages to extinction.
The Nigerian Language Oral History Documentation was designed to preserve, digitised, document and narrate the oral history of the affected languages by its native speakers. The intends to produce audio-visual format content and upload it on Commons and archive on US Library of Congress and any other platforms that support open license for research and education purposes. We have worked with Wikimedia affiliates and language enthusiasts in Nigeria to identify the affected languages, recorded 50 episodes of the languages and use the content on over 90 Wikipedia pages.
