2022-05-15: Add one reference on Wikipedia!

[edit]

#1LIB1REF CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES!

Imagine a world where every librarian adds at least one reference to Wikipedia.
Like it? Come help us make this vision a reality!

How do you do that? From 15 May - 5 June 2022, the 1lib1ref challenge will again be open to librarians around the world, but anyone can take part!

The task is easy - add at least one reference on Wikipedia! Any citation to a credible source will help Wikipedia readers around the world.

Then be sure to add the hashtag #1Lib1Ref in the edit summary and be logged into Wikipedia. Only by doing so are you automatically entered into a draw for small Wikimedia-themed prizes and a voucher to buy books.

Why librarians? Who else but librarians are so well qualified to maintain the quality of citations on Wikipedia - they are experts in searching and providing information, and in their work they work every day with books and journals, which are invaluable sources of information for Wikipedia.

Need some advice? The challenge is also open to librarians who have no practical experience editing Wikipedia or who do not have their own account. There will be an online Open Hour for librarians on Monday 23 May 2022 from 14:00 to 16:00. Link to the consultation session here.

The bi-annual #1Lib1Ref campaign is run by the Wikimedia Foundation and supported by the Wikipedia Library Team and Wikimedia Affiliates worldwide. We also work closely with librarian communities locally and globally to promote the campaign.

2022-05-18: Want to get involved in the #1Lib1Ref campaign but need help?

[edit]

As you know, the1Lib1Ref challenge was launched on Sunday 15 May for (not only) librarians around the world and will run until 5 June. This campaign challenges librarians to use the literature in their library to enrich Wikipedia with at least one citation (reference).

However, it is important to add the hashtag #1Lib1Ref to the Wikipedia summary when editing Wikipedia and to be logged into Wikipedia. This is the only way your reference is automatically registered in the campaign.

Is this already too complicated for you, or are you just not 100% sure? You don't have to worry about it!

Especially for those who don't have hands-on experience editing Wikipedia, there will be a special online Open Hour Call!

Open Hour Call will take place on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. You will be able to consult with the main lecturer of Wikimedia CR - [Bednařík] - about the selection of the article and reference, or about the technical aspect of completing the reference.

Link to the consultation meeting is here.

2022-05-22: Let's hunt for citations!

[edit]

Do you want to participate in the #1Lib1Ref campaign but find it too time-consuming to find a place to post a reference? Then we have the tool just for you!

Citation Hunt!

What's that? Citation Hunt is a tool that searches the Czech Wikipedia for unsourced claims. Out of thousands of tagged unsourced statements, it will show a random one - you can embellish it or keep searching. You can limit the range of articles by filling in the bottom box with the range of topics you want to address.

You can learn how to use Citation Hunt or how to participate in the #1Lib1Ref challenge in general at the Open Hour Call with our main lecturer [Bednařík]. He is ready to help you with any of your questions and wishes.

The Open Hour Call will take place on Monday 23 May 2022 from 14:00 to 16:00 ONLINE via the ZOOM platform.

2022-05-17: EDU Section met the lecturers

[edit]

On Sunday, 15 May, an online lecturer's meeting was held, attended by the Wikimedia CZ Education Section and lecturers of educational courses, workshops and other educational activities.

Originally, it was to be a regular "larger" meeting with our lecturers, which usually takes place twice a year and of course physically. Eventually the idea of an offline meeting was dropped, but fortunately there were enough lecturers to at least have an online meeting.

Despite the smaller number of people, the discussion was very lively. At key points, all present actively participated in the discussion, which greatly facilitated not only the course of the whole meeting but especially the future development of the whole EDU section, especially the relationship between Wikimedia CR and the lecturers.

The main topics of the meeting were mainly Wikiporadna and the practicalities of running [courses] and other events.
