2023-02-08: The Describe a Monument competition is halfway through. Over a hundred new articles on Wikipedia and we're not stopping!

[edit]

On 15 January, the sixth edition of the Describe a Monument competition started. Within the framework of the contest, individual editors write new articles on the Czech Wikipedia about cultural monuments. Three weeks after its launch, we are exactly halfway through. So far we have 118 new articles. The competition will run until 28 February. You can find out what the contestants have already written on our blog (in Czech only).

[edit]

From February 15 to March 15, 2023, a competition focused on photographing unphotographed states throughout the Czech Republic or their details is running. Photography has no limits, you can photograph buildings in any style or condition. Photos of decaying buildings or buildings before demolition are also useful. You can find more information on the pages of the Microcompetition Architecture 2023.

2023-02-22: Fancy organising a wiki-event or project? Get a Community Minigrant

[edit]

Community minigrants are our support for active members of the Czech community around Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. All active members of the community who have the energy and desire to organize events for the community and the public can apply for our support. We will provide you with funding, tips, help with promotion or equipment rental to make your project a reality.

As of 2019, 11 projects have already been successfully delivered by Community Mini Grants and we have supported them with nearly £60,000 in total. A big thank you to the volunteer organisers who have stepped up to make them happen. Last year we supported, for example, the Photographic Wikipedia Walk from Srubec, the Prague Wikiclub and the traditionally successful projects Describe a Memory and Asian Wikipedia Month. Find out more about the Community Minigrants in a new blog post (in Czech).

2023-02-08: Wikimedia advocacy targets legislation

[edit]

Wikimedia ČR, in cooperation with COMMUNIA, participated in the process of implementing the EU Digital Services Directive (No 2019/790) into the Czech legal system. Both organisations are working to expand the scope of the public domain (free works) and are actively engaged in this direction (not only) in legislative intentions. And how did it all work out in the end?

COMMUNIA, also thanks to Wikimedia's input, prepared a comparison of the implementation of the so-called DSM Directive across EU Member States and gave out "imaginary" prizes; the Czech Republic is among the winners.

2023-02-20: Looking back at the wiki in 2022

[edit]

Last year, we also pushed the development of Wikimedia ČR's association activities forward together and, in addition to the traditional activities, came up with several new ones. The year 2022 had several highlights in the Czech Wikimedia world - Czech Wikipedia celebrated its 20th anniversary and its first half a million articles, Wikidata also celebrated its anniversary. We organized over 185 events - courses, seminars, workshops, editathons for almost 1500 participants. Let's take a look at how we managed to promote and develop free culture and support volunteering and the growth of the Czech community around Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects last year. You can find the full look back in the new blogblost (in Czech).
