Making library collections in Africa more visible, open and connected is a major objective of the “Promoting Open Knowledge practices in African Libraries through WikiData” project by AfLIA. The project which is funded by Wikimedia Foundation also aims to drive better understanding of open knowledge and linked data in the African Library sector .

Objective

Organised under the GLAM Programme, this event aims at :

1. Introducing attendees to the Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda and its activities ;
2. Hosting and working with Ugandan participants under the Wikidata for African Libraries course
3. Interacting with participants to identify their particular challenges with Wikidata and identify solutions and opportunities around this ;
4. Addressing the knowledge gap between the work of information workers and open access

This will be an in-person session held on a Saturday 29 April 2023 starting at 9AM
