How did you attend Wikimania (virtually or in-person)?
[edit]Both in-person and virtually What did you spend the scholarship funds on? I spent the scholarship funds on buying airtime, data packages and head phones.
Takeaways – choose 3 specific Wikimania sessions you attended and describe your key take-aways per session.
[edit]i)Addressing climate change and Environmental issues using Wikipedia project:
[edit]Revisiting the Green WikiCampaign Key take aways are; Learned the causes of climate change such as volcanic eruptions, variations in the solar radiation, deforestation, green house gases emissions, manufactured goods like plastics, cement. Effects of climate change like disease and pest carriage, dangerous storms as a result of excessive rainfall, drought. I also learned on how we can save ourselves from climate change through the 3Rs that is Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. I also got to know that you can edit about climate through Wikidata and Wikiquotes.
ii) Building a regional perspective:
[edit]Difficulties and limitations of WikiGLAM in Latam In this session I learnt about the problems faced by Wikipedians in documenting items in institutions in Latam and related them to Uganda; Limited resources; like skilled personnel, equipment. Negative attitude from people about going open; some people think if they provide their information they may lose control over it and some people think the information or graphics once put online they may be misused. From this session I also learnt on ideas that we as the Uganda community user group can use for a better WikiGLAM;we need to identify GLAMs necessities, do introduction trainings in the user group and those who appreciate the concept can take it to another level thus having a WikiGLAM community, for projects start with small libraries or institutions or groups.
iii) Local event integration:
[edit]Uganda From this session I got encouraged from colleagues’ sharing especially those whose accounts were at one time blocked but they still rose up. Knowledge sharing through interaction with members individually, quiz and also in groups, it was amazing, this helped in enlarging my networks too. What I liked about the Uganda user group is the zeal to uplift women in Wikipedia projects.
How did you connect with other people during Wikimania 2022? How did you celebrate at Wikimania 2022?
[edit]I connected with people physically, phone calls and through social media platforms like WhatsApp, twitter and in tents. I celebrated Wikimania 2022 by interacting with fellow local user group members at Capital Kitchen Uganda physically.
