How did you attend Wikimania (virtually or in-person)?

I attended wikimania 2022 virtually and physically. I virtually attended wikimania on the pheedloop app, on Jitsi meet, on zoom and caught up with any missed sessions on YouTube.

I also attended a local inperson event in Kampala Uganda where we met as members of the Wikimedia community usergroup uganda. We were joined by new members to the community and the whole experience was worthwhile.

What did you spend the scholarship funds on?

I spent a big portion of the scholarship fund on purchasing internet data bundles to last me throught wikimania. I also spent another part on meals during wikimania virtual sessions.

1.Poetry in Motion;

This session during wikimania was presented and done as a tribute to the Wikimedians of United Arab Emirates usergroup. It was set in Dubai creek/ a historical trade route region.

The poetry in motion seesion had a combination of wonderful poems and musical performance by an emirati artist. And introduced us to the beautiful Emirati culture and literatire. This session was also a classic example of diversity and inclusion.

Through the session, we also learnt about the "Emirati literature foundation" an NGO that sponsors the Emirati usergroup.

2.Wikimedia sound logo Masterclass;

This session introduced us to a new project in the Wikimedia community that deals with sounds and how they can be infused in Wikimedia projects.

In the sseeion, we were able to first hand observe how sound is edited, introduced to diferent types of sounds and a step by step on how to blend sounds.

We learnt that the wikimedia sound logo challenge will launch on September 13th and told how to take part in it., and am looking forward to it. I was also elated to learn that our member in the community usergroup Uganda Erina Mukuta is a sound logo liason in English speaking Africa.

It was an eye opening session into the world of sounds and how they come about, from recording to final delivery.

3.wikimedian of the year;

This was a nice session that rewarded exceptional Wikimedians around the globe.

In the session, we got to learn what other Wikimedians in other communities are up to and what makes them tick. The awardees shsred their experiences from which we can draw inspiration to aspire for the same awards come next year.

4.Improving mobile web for experienced editors;

In this session, we got an update on improvements to the moblie web interface and discussed ways on how to improve user experience while editing on phone.

It was also made known to us that its it's easier to apply and become an administrator now if your a mobile web based editor, since there are afew of them at the moment.

How did you connect with other people during wikimania 2022? How did you celebrate at Wikimania 2022?

I connected with fellow Wikimedians during interactions and break away session in the sessions we attended together. This i did especially during a session where we were discussing the Wikimedia human rights policy. It was interactive and was able to make a number of acquaintances.

During the inperson event too, i was able to link up with our community members and new comers and we celebrated wikimania together through a number of interactive sessions and we cut the cake to cap the event.
