Things I learned at the conference
[edit]The key components that I learned during Wikimedia include:
- Various components of Wikimedia that can be used for the betterment of Wikimedia projects, especially my "home wiki", the Malay Wikipedia, as an active admin.
- One prominent example is definitely the Growth Team and their current projects, such as the Wiki mentor system and insights on other projects such as the Newcomer tools, which is very helpful to one of my current goals in Malay Wikipedia ― capacity building. Other than that, there's also other tools such as wiki-metric tools for event organization, and the easy indexing "tool" by Singaporean Wikipedian, Robert.
- Insights of Wiki programs conducted around the world such as WikiVibrance for youth outreach, and the various programs conducted by Wikimedia Indonesia and its degree of success.
- Insights of various current issues pertaining the Wiki-sphere in general, including the impacts of AI (specifically large language models), the need of diversity, and issues pertaining article notability.
Things I contributed or participated in or since the conference
[edit]- ESEAP framework building
- During the ESEAP meeting in 16 August, I have proposed several key issues that ESEAP should concern, primarily revolving the general integrity of Wiki content. This include academic integrity (eliminating chances of bias or misuse), technical building for smaller Wiki projects (e.g. bots, modules, MediaWiki interfaces), and capacity building ― which includes attracting more people into contributing Wiki projects, and boosting efficiency and productivity.
- Mentoring tools
- During the "Mentoring tools" presentation in 16 August, the presenters asked us some question regarding capacity building efforts done. For this, I proposed my/our social media efforts done under the Malay Wikipedia banner and our personal accounts. In a slight addition, we also added welcome templates as one small effort of us.
- It's recorded in the after-slide: "Welcome templates, communication through social media (Twitter, Discord, etc.)"

- Engaging with Youth (20 August)
- Similar to the "Mentoring tools" presentation, I proposed our efforts in social media to interact with our youth community (this time, I highlighted our Discord server as the go-to chat platform for the younger audience and relationship building).
Plans after the conference
[edit]- Look back at my personal Wikimania notes that I wrote throughout Wikimania, and try to fill up the things to do.
- This includes looking back at the slides and watch a few livestreams of presentations I've missed/had to miss.
- Try to explore and implement the stuff in Wikimedia projects, especially Malay Wikipedia
- Further communicate with the ones I met, for Wikimedia purposes or perhaps socially.
Comments/suggestions about the conference
[edit]So far, this Wikimania has been conducted smoothly, and I'm glad to be on it. Here are some improvements that we can consider in later Wikimanias:
- Interest-related informal meetings
- E.g. The collectors’ group that we just formed
- Guideline for Muslims, esp. in later editions in Muslim-minority locations such as the next edition in Krakow.
- This can also be applied for other groups needing special attention, including Kosher guidelines, PwDs etc.
