Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia/Reports/2020

This page is the 2020 Annual Report for Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia (MYS) for the period of 10 September 2019 – 9 September 2020. This annual report is the third report submitted by the user group after its official formation and formal recognition on 10 September 2017.

Background

This third year of the user group establishment saw some big milestone achievements in their presence in Malaysia. Although the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has impacted almost everyone around the globe, nevertheless the user group has been able to obtain a number of achievements.

On 12 February 2020, the group has officially been registered and listed as a non-governmental organization under the National Registration Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia under the name Wiki Community Welfare User Association Malaysia (official English name) or Pertumbuhan Kebajikan Komuniti Pengguna Wiki Malaysia (official Malay name). For meetups, although the number of meetups this third year had been greatly reduced, but we managed to make the first meetup with museum and gallery under the Wikipedia Penang Meetup 2 on 9 October 2019. We had also our very first online meetup in the form of webinar on 8 May 2020, with a total of three times throughout the 1-year period. This year also saw the very first time our user group has successfully applied and received funding from Wikimedia Foundation to run our online events (Wiki Loves Earths 2020 in Malaysia (Wikimedia Commons) and WikiKata 2020 (Wiktionary)), complete with our very first annual financial report as well.

Committees

Three active Wikipedia editors voluntarily formed the high committees to maintain the documentation works required for the user group. In day-to-day reality, everyone helped each other whenever who is available to run the user group with other editors who are not high committees. Starting from the 2018-2019 period, we shall include the other core committee members in the committee sections.
