Introduction
Wikimedia Community User Group Refugees is a team of self-motivated individuals who improve articles on Wikimedia Foundation project websites and promote free and open access to knowledge locally. They also invested in projects that sensitize and train communities about Wikipedia. The Refugee Wikimedia Community is committed to promoting the use and expansion of Wikimedia projects in Refugee Settlements, with the goal of increasing access to free knowledge and information for all citizens. We aim to support and encourage the participation of Refugee users in the Wikimedia community, and to work towards the promotion of open access and the sharing of knowledge and culture in the country. Vision Statement:
Vision
Our vision is to create a thriving and diverse Wikimedia community in Refugee Settlements that serves as a hub for the sharing of knowledge, culture, and information. We envision a country where all citizens have equal access to the vast wealth of knowledge and information available on Wikimedia projects, and where the contributions of Refugee users are recognized and valued on a global scale. We strive to create a community that is inclusive, collaborative, and dedicated to the promotion of free knowledge and the democratization of information.
Objectives
- To represent the Wikimedia Foundation to the Refugee Wikimedia contributing community
- To promote Wikimedia projects and free content in general and to encourage the use of Wikimedia resources in education.
- To recruit technically and non-technically minded people to participate to Wikimedia projects.
- Organisation of conventions, conferences, meetings, workshops, contests, etc.
5 Pillars of strategy as a community
- Increase the number of active Refugee users on Wikimedia projects: In the next five years, we aim to increase the number of active Refugee users on Wikimedia projects by at least 50%. This will be achieved through a variety of outreach and engagement initiatives, such as organizing workshops and trainings, collaborating with schools and universities, and promoting the benefits of participation in the Wikimedia community.
- Expand the coverage of Refugee topics on Wikimedia projects: We will work to expand the coverage of Refugee topics on Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and other related projects. This will be done through the creation of new articles and the updating of existing ones, with a focus on underrepresented subjects and communities.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment: We will strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment within the Refugee Wikimedia community, fostering a sense of belonging and support for all members. This will involve providing resources and support for new contributors, promoting diversity and inclusivity, and fostering collaboration and peer review within the community.
- Enhance the capacity of the Refugee Wikimedia community: In the next five years, we will work to enhance the capacity of the Refugee Wikimedia community by providing training and support for members, including tutorials and resources on how to edit and contribute to Wikimedia. We will also work to establish partnerships with relevant organizations and institutions in the country to support the growth and development of the community.
- Promote the Refugee Wikimedia community to a wider audience: We will use social media and other online channels to promote the Refugee Wikimedia community and its activities to a wider audience, with the goal of increasing visibility and engagement with the public. This will include creating and sharing engaging content, collaborating with other organizations, and using hashtags to reach a larger audience.
