Open questions

[edit]
  • Use of "Wikimedia": Most of the suggestions break the naming scheme for Wikimedia affiliates. Will this be a drawback for our chances to get officially affiliated in the future? --Mglaser (talk) 12:37, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would rather call it "Association of Affiliates" and may be we can call ourselves as "Association of Wikimedia Affiliates" unofficially. -- ♪Karthik♫ ♪Nadar♫ 16:03, 16 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We are allowed to use the term "Wikimedia" as long as we act only within the movement. Moreover, the proposed renaming does not suggest we are a Wikimedia entity but a association of Wikimedia entities. That's just the reality. I don't think we should be afraid of using that name. Referring to our last telco, I took out the options for other names. Voting will only be on rename or not ;) . --Mglaser (talk) 22:46, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a not so ugly alternative suggestion? Any proposals are very welcome! --Mglaser (talk) 21:58, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I love the present one. Morover, the question about Wikimedia Affiliates is not resolved, so it seems to be premature to change the name. --A1 (talk) 22:21, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  4. I'm all for the inclusive concept, but this name just doesn't work for me. What about something like "Wikimedia Network" or "Wikimedia International Exchange"?--Pharos (talk) 03:57, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I had a funny idea last night, maybe it could work, playing on both wiki culture and internationalism: the "Interwiki Association" :)--Pharos (talk) 14:11, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  5. I don't like the proposed name, and we don't need to change it right now. As a general remark, note that names are not description, so we don't need to try to have a name that states exactly what we are (not that it would be really possible anyway...). - Laurentius (talk) 10:11, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Don't like it and agree with Laurentius and A1. We can let it be WCA for now. --Tarunno (talk) 19:18, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
