Wikimedia CH/Micro Grant/Referenzbücher für Urheberrechtsabklärungen

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Please provide the following information for your micro-grant request:

Your Username: Carl is submitting in this Micro-grants request.

Your Country of residence: Switzerland

Amount requested: CHF 500

Planned activity: The Public Domain project would like to create a physical- and digital collection of reference books.

The rights investigation in the Internet of historical sound recordings is very time consuming. Many databases contains incorrect or inadequate source information of 78 rpm gramophone records and the most of the shellac discs contains only the surname of the performer and/or the composer. The benefit of a reference books collection is a great help for us and other projects. We stay in contact with people in Argentinia, Finnland, Mexico and Uruguay.

I want hereby apply CHF 500 for 2nd hand library items of "Encyclopedic Discographies" and the 2003 edition of "Das grosse Sängerlexikon" in seven volumes (is considered the world's most comprehensive encyclopedia about singers of classical music). We make sure that we are moving the books at the best prices in the market. The lump sum is requested, because currently it is not clear for which prices the books can be accurately obtained. Many books are very rare. We need much more books - this is a very small part of our wish list, but a very important one.

We will publish all books of our collection on this page: http://en.publicdomainproject.org/index.php/Library_of_the_Public_Domain_Project

People involved
Swiss Foundation Public Domain with his two chapters: Public Domain Project (Switzerland) and Dominio Público Sonoro (Uruguay). Users of the Digitizing group (DG).

Please explain what influence your activity will have on Wikimedia Projects
More uploads of digitized music records to Wikimedia Commons.

It's impossible to publish an exact number of uploads, because of the time-spending work of the rights clearing. With the help of these books we can upload much more works to Wikimedia Commons.

Important: After having submitted your request, please write an eMail to info@wikimedia.ch with your contact details (at least: Name, Surname, Email address)
