Abstract:

It is no secret that members of our communities are, unfortunately, getting older and experiencing burnout with increasing frequency. Therefore, we need a constant influx of new editors willing to engage more deeply. Young people seem to be an interesting target group in this respect, eager to act and learn new experiences. As part of the lecture, we would like to share WMPL's experience in activating young people to cooperate in Wikimedia projects, as well as present the results of statistical research on the awareness of Wikimedia activities, conducted on young people from Polish primary and secondary schools.

How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of CEE?

Attendees will learn why and how we should to encourage young people to get involved in Wikimedia projects. The presented research results, examples and benefits of completed educational projects, as well as potential ways of contact with young people, will show what steps we should take and prove that they are necessary for our further development. Thanks to the presented information, CEE communities will be able to establish contacts with educational institutions and start cooperation in the near future.
