Abstract:
Over the past year, I have been engaging various Polish authorities to influence their decision for the benefit of Open Culture and Open Knowledge. I would like to show the lessons learned from this process. The questions I would like to answer are: Why should we do this in the first place? What are the dangers, and what are the opportunities? What are the recommended strategies? How to make sure that we are heard? Who are our allies, and why should we work with them? I will focus on the already existing processes (Wikimedia Europe, FKAG EU and the WMF Policy Team) and share their ways with the participants |

How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of CEE?
Central and Eastern Europe, like the entire Wikimedia, is in a pivotal time and place when it comes to public policy. Various regulations (national, EU and the US) are coming into life now. The laws and regulations that will be adopted in the next few years will govern the way we operate for the years to come. The best time to engaged was 5 years ago; the second best is now. I hope to share my skills and knowledge with the representatives of the affiliates and interested volunteers, so they will also have the tools required to engage in this work. |
