Abstract:
In early 2023, Turkey-Syria Earthquakes affected multiple regions and countries, an area known for its rich historic and archaeological significance, as well as its tangible and intangible heritage elements. In Türkiye, a total of 11 provinces were affected by these earthquakes. Digital Cultural Heritage Network in Türkiye received a Wikimedia rapid fund to build a repository of resources to assess the damage of cultural heritage sites, monuments and historic buildings, libraries and museums due to the 2023 Earthquakes. The rapid fund was used to train GLAM professionals and organize several edit-a-thon events to create open knowledge about digital heritage in Türkiye and building a repository to contribute to disaster relief. The lecture will talk about how the rapid fund was used, the impacts and lessons learned. |
