What is the main goal of your project?
  • Organizing an online Edit-a-thon in December 2024 with 15 participants for Kyrgyz Wikipedians in order to take part in Wikipedia Asia Month 2024.
  • The main goal of this project is to stimulate the participation of Kyrgyz-speaking editors in the global Wikipedia movement. By organizing an online Edit-a-thon, we aim to:
    • Promote the creation of content in the native language
    • Use the experience of participants from Asian User Group
    • Create a collaborative atmosphere among editors
    • Establish a sustainable editing community
    • Raise awareness of the global significance of Wikipedia
  • Expected outcomes:
    • Increase in content on the Kyrgyz Wikipedia
    • Development of editing skills
    • Continued activity from editors
  • By focusing on these goals, the project will help strengthen the presence of Kyrgyz-language content on Wikipedia and engage more people in long-term participation in the Wiki movement.
Describe which activities you plan to implement
  1. Event Plan for Kyrgyz Wikipedia Online Edit-a-thon
    1. Online Edit-a-thon for Kyrgyz Wikipedia Volunteers and Newcomers
    2. Date: December 10, 2024
    3. Objective: Engage 15 Kyrgyz-speaking Wikipedia editors (volunteers and beginners) in an online Edit-a-thon to contribute to and improve articles in the Kyrgyz language.
  2. Mini Contest Announcement (Post-Edit-a-thon)
    1. Date: December 11, 2024
    2. Objective: After the Edit-a-thon, we will announce a mini contest to encourage participants to continue editing and improving articles on Kyrgyz Wikipedia.
  3. Quality and Quantity Review
    1. Date: 30/12/2024 - 04/012025
    2. Objective: Assess both the quantity of articles edited/created and the quality of contributions made during the Edit-a-thon. This review will guide the selection of winners for the contest.
  4. Awarding Prizes for Contest Winners
    1. Date: January 5 , 2024
    2. Objective: Nominate and announce the prize winners for the mini contest based on their performance in the Edit-a-thon (both in terms of quality and quantity of edits). Prizes will be awarded to motivate ongoing participation.

  • We are several individuals from Kyrgyz Wikipedia, with the following usernames: Mamatkazy, Mirzoulugʻbek, Элдин беги, Aiyanakk, who have experience in actively participating in Kyrgyz Wikipedia.

  • The project is relevant for Kyrgyz Wikipedia, aimed at developing qualitative and quantitative content about Asian countries. It targets volunteers, editors and anyone involved in creating and improving Kyrgyz language articles, with the aim of energizing the community and attracting new contributors. These events will help strengthen the bond between participants, promote knowledge sharing and the development of an editing culture, and motivate continued participation in the movement and active development of the Asia sections on Wikipedia.

  • This is first Edit-a-thon to be organized on Kyrgyz Wikipedia, and it is expected that there will be positive results. We will continue to hold similar events to activate the community and develop Kyrgyz Wikipedia.
