[edit]Celebrating one year with Tech News
Body
[edit]On this day one year ago, we published the first issue of Tech News, a multilingual weekly newsletter that aims at providing up-to-date information about technical changes likely to affect the everyday work of the Wikimedia community.
Created as a way to provide useful and concise summary of the thousands of code changes submitted by MediaWiki developers each month, Tech News has grown to be an important source of technical information for hundreds of users who contribute to Wikipedia and its sister projects, and an embodiment of many values that are dear to the Wikimedia movement.
With more than 16,000 edits made to the 43 issues published so far by almost 250 different users — a mix of Wikimedia Foundation employees, developers, volunteers and unregistered contributors — the newsletter is a great example of the spirit of collaboration that drives the constant development of our projects.
Translated into 49 different languages and dialects, from Azeri to Yiddish, from Hindi to Hungarian, Tech News reaffirms our belief in openness and diversity. With 275 individual subscribers and 58 subscribed community pages, it is also a hands-on illustration of our ongoing commitment to transparency.
Writing Tech News for the past year has been a wonderful experience, and we'd like to celebrate this milestone by saying "thank you" to each and every one of the people who joined in with this initiative. We appreciate your involvement and the support shown us over the year, and are looking forward to working together to make future issues of Tech News even better.
If you're not a Tech News contributor yet, you can join our effort by translating the latest issue into your language, adding relevant information or links to the next issue, or just by sharing the news with your community or providing feedback on our talk page.
If you’d like to read the newsletter, add your username to our global delivery list to have it delivered on your talk page every week, or subscribe to an Atom or RSS feed to receive it in your favourite news aggregator as soon as it arrives. You can also subscribe to the wikitech-ambassadors mailing list to get more frequent updates on important changes likely to impact your Wikimedia experience.
