Wikipedia logo under the Sevan Lake
[edit]A large Wikipedia sculpture made of concrete was submerged to the bottom of Sevan Lake on the 29th of September with the purpose of creating an artificial reef for the resident fish. This unusual and interesting idea was proposed by the divers from ArmDiving club! The wiki community was already familiar with the sculpture which was introduced to them during the CEE 2016 meeting at the UWC Dilijan. Wikimedia Armenia invited editors, Wikimedians and friends for this event.
This event was running in parallel with Wiki Loves Science 2 day workshop. After their trip to Lake Sevan the attendees were given an amazing opportunity to tour and visit Hayravank, Kecharis and St. Harutyun churches. The best photos were then uploaded on Wikimedia Commons!
Wiki Loves Science project is aimed at further developing the professional articles in Armenian Wikipedia with the help of scientists and students. 103 articles were written by 33 participants during the 2 day seminar.

CEE Meeting 2017 Warsaw
[edit]The CEE Meeting 2017 was hosted by Wikimedia Poland, in Warsaw for wikimedians and the user-groups representatives from Central and Eastern Europe. Armenia was represented by 5 participants: Susanna Mkrtchyan, Avetik Yesayan, Hasmik Mailyan, Siranush Ohanyan and Artur Yengoyan.
Siranush Ohanyan who attended this meeting for the first time has especially been impressed with one of the presentations. Siranush mentioned that one of the best moments for her was Asav Bartov’s 4 hour long presentation about human facilitation skill. It was very useful for wikipedians and wikimedians to gain some theoretical and practical knowledge about group discussion and decision making in real life situations.
Hasmik Mailyan who also participated during the meeting is an English teacher in one of the schools in Armenia. She really liked the Wiki workshops and learned useful teaching methods and techniques. She also learned how to edit wiki projects and use wikipedia as a powerful and an educational tool. Hasmik was particularly impressed with the following seminars:
- Wikidata and Wikidata related projects
- GLAM and photo contest tools
- Wikimedia's strategic direction, endorsement process and next steps.
Artur Yengoyan mentioned that this is the first time for him to attend a meeting of this kind taking into account the magnitude and the format of this event. Artur felt that this meeting was productive, because so many opinions were expressed and experiences shared by participants from different countries.
Saturday Workshops
[edit]Every Saturday Wikimedia Armenia organizes open workshops edit-a-thons at the WM AM office where new editors are taught how to edit different wiki projects and the experienced editors participate in edit-a-thons dedicated to different themes. Anyone interested in wiki projects, Wikipedia, wiki editing and needing assistance, as well as wiki editors, who want to edit in pleasant atmosphere participate in these workshops. We have about 15-20 participants in each workshop. Among them there are also active wiki editors of hywiki, hywiktionary, hywikisource, Wikidata who help to conduct the workshops.
