Abstract:
In this session, we will present an in-depth analysis of two unique datasets that provide over a decade of insights into libraries' contributions to Wikimedia projects. The first dataset compiles ""This Month in GLAM"" reports (~2011-2023), highlighting the role of libraries. The second dataset is the first comprehensive collection of entries documenting the vibrant stories of libraries, librarians, and advocates contributing to Open Knowledge, as shared through Wikimedia’s Blog: Diff (~2008-2023). Attendees will gain a broader understanding of trends in the Wiki+Lib sphere by exploring regional and topical patterns. This session will also offer practical takeaways on using data for storytelling, advocacy, and building future collaborations within open knowledge environments. Beyond data highlights, the session will emphasize community engagement. After showcasing critical findings during the first 20 minutes, the remaining time will be dedicated to an interactive discussion. Participants will be invited to share ideas on what questions the community wants to explore and how we can improve the collection and sharing of this data. The goal is to co-create strategies that enhance collaboration by creating proper communication flows of the impact libraries worldwide are making by using Wikimedia as a tool for open knowledge efforts.
