- Abstract
This presentation will showcase the output and the strategy we are following in the Write for the rights project in Tunisia. It's a 3 months project where we train the members and community in general of an NGO based in Tunis and that works on defending LGBTQI+ rights and health in the country. We are giving a serie of workshops where we train them on editing Wikipedia content in all languages but with a special focus on arabic, and focusing on the sexual education articles. In fact, the arabic wikipedia suffers of a big gap when it comes to content related to sexual diversity and sexual education (concepts, diseases, way of prevention, etc). So throught this project, we are aiming to fill this gap and provide youth in the arab world with a very accessible tool for their sexual culture and health: Wikipedia articles in arabic.
- How does your proposal add knowledge to the international community in Wikimedia and education?
- ...
The added value of my presentation will be in its approach. For many cultural and political reasons, working on sexual issues that are considered a taboo, and with LGBTQI+ community which is a very sensitive and vulnearble community when it comes to this topic, is very different and special. I want to present the differences and how we are managing to do it.
- Who is the intended ideal audience for the topic?
Anyone who is interested in working on minorities, health education, human rights and Language gap in wikipedia.
