Wikimania 2015 bids/Mexico City/Our Team
Our Team
[edit]The bid is proposed by Wikimedia México A.C. (WMMX), the local chapter of Wikimedia Foundation.
Wikimedia Mexico has quickly become a relevant chapter in the Wikimedia movement and one of the most active in the Spanish speaking countries. Since its recognition has been involved at least in 300 events, including workshops, conferences and more, which has made grow the chapter exponentially, having permanent activities in different states of the country, such Puebla and Guadalajara.
WMMX has a strong collaboration and links with the culture, education, TI companies and government sectors and lot of NGOs and communities that help us consolidate our work in the country. Among the institutions that we have worked with, are: Fine Arts Palace Museum (Museo Palacio de Bellas Artes), Center for Digital Culture (Centro de Cultura Digital), Chopo University Museum (Museo Universitario del Chopo), Soumaya Museum (Museo Soumaya), National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO), National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). It's worth mentioning our work with Iberoamerican University (UIA) with whom we broadcast the only radio show about Wikipedia, called Moëbius, aired by UIA's radio station, Ibero 90.9 FM. In Puebla we are supporting the Wikipedistas en Puebla initiative to form a future Wikimedia User Group.
We have also participated in massive technology events such Campus Party, TagDF, Aldea Digital and each year in many FLISoL’s locations. The chapter has a strong media strategy: only in 2013 we had more than 90 mentions in radio, newspapers and television.
About initiatives and proposals, we always try to provide something creative and new, for example, in our two Wiki Loves Monuments editions. In 2012 Mexico was the country in Latin America with more pictures. In 2013 we offered to WLM participants a more comprehensive program: in addition to the contest we held some photography workshops and historical tours in different locations of the country.
WMMX hosted Iberoconf 2013 and was considered, along with Argentina, a strategic location in Latin America by the Wikimedia Foundation.
Finally, two of our board members are part of the decision areas of Wikimedia: our President, is member of the Grant Advisory Comittee and our Treasurer is part of the Membership Committee (AffCom). Also the Iberocoop initiative, is coordinated by the Secretariat of the chapter.
