Wikimania 2008/Bids/London/List of potential business sponsors
Appearance
- Virgin Group's charity arm Virgin Unite matched donations during fundraiser - maybe they'd like to help Wikimedia UK/Wikimania. Gary KIRK parler! 14:46, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- Any and all of the financial companies in the City, along with other similarly big graduate recruiters such as professional services firms. KTC 02:29, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- The Guardian are generally pro-wiki and sponsor quite a few events (e.g. the Hay literary festival).
- T-Mobile are the most obvious cell phone company to contact as they have the strongest internet focus. Though there might be problems if we're also being sponsored by Virgin.
- Google have a fair sized UK base nowadays.
- Other UK new media companies. Shiny Shiny (if they actually make any money...), Torchbox and similar web-design companies. Channel 4 even as they have a pretty large internet arm these days.
- Other tech industries. The thousands of companies doing generic commercial database work, the games industry.
- University sponsorship. Oxford has an "Internet Institute" for study of the internet. Perhaps if one of the London universities has a similar thing Wikimania could be combined with a more serious academic conference. --cfp 14:34, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
