Wikimania 2008/Bids/Atlanta/Georgia Tech
We are currently in negotiations to get hacking days held at the Klaus Advanced Computing Building, adjacent to the Georgia Tech Student Center. We felt that one hacking day was unacceptable, so we have since expanded to two days, both of which will be held at Klaus (the other events will still be in the pre-arranged venues). In terms of green innovation, the Klaus Building is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certified. Georgia also tops the list of states in the Southern U.S. in terms of the number of LEED Certified buildings built; 41 LEED Certified buildings have been built in Georgia to date.

Georgia Tech Student Center
[edit]The Georgia Tech Student Center has two wings—the Student Center proper and the Student Center Commons. The division of these wings can make it somewhat difficult for newcomers to navigate as there are two second floors which do not connect. (See building map.) The wing and floor of each relevant room in the facility is carefully denoted with both the wing and floor number so as to reduce confusion.

The rooms on the third floor of the Student Center wing are probably best suited for these purposes.
Socializing areas, lounges and eateries
[edit]- (Garden, lounge etc., their capacity and the hours at which they are opened/closed)
Lounge areas are located throughout the Student Center as well as in most dormitory buildings. Several restaurants and a food court are also in the building (see this list of retail space and their hours of operation). There is a large amount of green space adjacent to the Student Center and a large outdoor meeting area at the Kessler Campanile, which can serve as a high-capacity auditorium. There is a recreation facility, Tech Rec, on the first floor of the Student Center that offers Bowling, Billiards, and Video Gaming. (See the Tech Rec website.) The restaurants in Technology Square as well as other green spaces on campus are are accessible by walking or by using Tech's free bus and trolley system.

Contacts with conference venue
[edit]- (Emails, price quotes etc.)
Official website Jessica Gibson has contacted the Event Coordinator. +1 (404) 894-2804. Price quotes and the e-mail can be provided upon request, and will be discussed in the August 27 chat meeting, which is logged.
Technical facilities
[edit]- Existing technical installations
- Some rooms have AV resources, but these aren't as integrated or elaborate as those available in the Conference Center.
- Wireless Network implementation
- Wireless connectivity is available throughout the facility, although whether we could get access for free is unknown. We currently have a contact with the person in charge of wi-fi connectivity, putting more weight in our favor.
