[edit]- Q: what's the general split between what the wmf helps with and what the organizers are responsible for?
- A: the organizers are responsible for most of it -- logistics (so booking venue, accommodation, etc), program, and local sponsorship. WMF takes on international sponsorships. They will also cut you a check from the WMF for seed money, and also, the last two years, the WMF has been dealing with scholarships
- Q: why is the budget for these things so big?
- A: often we pay for the space, rather than get it donated
- you need insurance for a big conference
- the catering bills for 500ppl are substantial
- room and board for keynote speakers, lead organizers, etc.
- misc expenses (e.g. tech support) are higher
there are some detailed budgets on past bids that might help.
