Viele Wikimedia-Beitragende setzen sich bei ihrer Arbeit an verschiedenen Projekten mit rechtlichen Fragen auseinander. Wikilegal ist eine Seite für die Community, um sich an einem Diskurs über diese Themen zu beteiligen. Themen aus fast allen Rechtsbereichen sind für unsere Projekte relevant - vom Urheberrecht und dem Datenschutzrecht bis hin zur Verwaltung von Organisationen und neuen Gesetzen. Wikilegal beinhaltet derzeit spezielle rechtliche Untersuchungen von Entwicklungen, die Wikimedia-Projekte und Nutzer/innen betreffen könnten. Diese Beiträge können einige interessante und sogar obskure rechtliche Fragen aufwerfen. Zum Beispiel ist der mögliche urheberrechtliche Status von Screenshots, die urheberrechtlich geschützte Bilder enthalten, wie viele andere rechtliche Fragen auch, nicht eindeutig und erfordert den Input der Community.
