Jan 15th - today marks the 24th birthday of Wikipedia... Happy Wikipedia Day.
It's Office Hour time, we will be updating the Wikidata and Wikibase communities with our activities from the end of 2024 in a Telegram Chat, please join us or check the archived transcription later.
A second Senior Software Engineer, Neslihan, joins the team. That marks the successful filling of all vacancies for the Wikidata For Wikimedia Projects team.

We resolved Phabricator ticket: T66315 and moved the Wikidata Item sitelink from General to In Other Projects of the sidebar menu. (More info here)
T295356 To reduce noise in Wikimedia project watchlists from 'junk notifications' when edits are made on Wikidata, the aspect of entity:getSitelink() was changed to track Title instead of Sitelink. (More info here)

Ifeatu Nnaobi and Danny Benjafield attended Wikimania 2024 Katowice (Poland) where we summarised some high-level findings of our research project during the Poster Session. (Our Poster / All Posters)
We are thrilled to have our latest colleague, Sean Leong, join the Wikidata for Wikimedia Projects team.

Gave a short introduction of the team and activities of the previous 12 months to Wikimedia Deutschland.
Published a Community Report of our activities over the last 12 months.

June 2024

Hiring for 2 Senior software engineers was concluded, starting in Q3 2024. This will fulfil one of our 2024 Program Goals to hire a complete development team.
As part of our research project into the state of Usage of Wikidata in the other wikis, we held a series of interviews with Community members.

May 2024

Joely Rooke joined the team as a Software Engineer.
Danny Benjafield and Cynthia Makonyango attended the Wikimedia Hackathon 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia.

We presented our Q4 2023 activities to the community at the Wikidata+Wikibase Office Hour. Read the transcript.
WIT (formerly WD4WMP) had its 2nd Team Days with a series of workshops.
- Team Retrospective
- With the addition of Cynthia, we went over the Roles and Tasks of the different team members in our DACI Matrix.
- We reviewed the Backlog and outstanding tasks and sorted them into Buckets.
- Team Goals and the 2024 Roadmap
- The team discussed the hiring process for our Software engineers: expectations of the hiring process, roles and timelines.
The team welcomes its Engineering Manager, Cynthia Makonyango. Cynthia's role is crucial for the future work of our team as she will:
- assist in the hiring of Software Engineers
- assess the size and scope of developmental tasks
- oversee Rituals for the Software Engineering team
- liase closely with other team members to ensure that goals are aligned
