The project
[edit]- Description
This project intends, on the one hand, to make an inventory of all the public libraries existing in Haiti, then to present this inventory on wiki data; on the other hand, to make available on wikisource 50 works of Haitian scientific heritage which are free of copyright. That said, as specific objectives, Biblio_Wiki_Haiti plans to: 1) train 20 activists from the Haitian documentary community in wikidata and wikisource; 2) create wikidata files on all Haitian libraries; 3) digitize 50 works of classical Haitian social thought and release them on wikisource.
- Motivation
It is about helping to document the intellectual tools of Haiti. Obviously, the latter does not consist only of libraries. It includes other means of knowledge dissemination such as journals, publishing houses, universities, training centers. At least this project is limited to libraries. In the same vein, it is also a question of helping to promote access to Haitian scientific heritage, helping to make it more visible in the international Francophonie, notably through the Wikimedian project: wikisource. Especially since Haitian researchers are under-represented on this platform. The same is true for the libraries of Haiti with regard to their presence on the wikidata platform.
- Activities
Realization of a webinar on the theme: "digital commons by and for Haiti" Recruitment of 20 Haitian documentary activists to be trained in wikidata and wikisource Three training sessions at wikidata and wikisource Implementation of a committee responsible for inventory activities of libraries in the country Create branches in the ten departments of the country Investigative work in the ten geographic departments of the country for the inventory of the country's libraries Photo hunt of Haiti's public libraries Digitization workshops of 50 Haitian works in concert with the Network of Young Volunteers of Classics of Social Sciences in Haiti (REJEBECSS-Haiti) with a digitization studio in Port-au-Prince Contribution workshops to wikisource and wikidata Webinar review of project activities
- Measures of success
The introduction of wikisource in the Haitian documentary world All ten departments are represented in the library inventory The degree of information provided in the description of the inventoried libraries Creation on wikimedia commons of a file bank relating to the country's public libraries Testimonials from participants
- Target community
The Haitian documentary community will be primarily involved in this project. For example, the new contributors who will be trained will come from this background. The actors in this sector will be mobilized to have access to the information necessary as part of the inventory.
