Background to the Programme

Eight out of every ten Nigerian lecturers are Wikipedia users who want to learn how to contribute to the platform. And subsequently, pass on the experience to their students. Therefore, this program is designed to identify Nigerian lecturers willing to learn about the product and impart knowledge to their students in a classroom setting.

Overview of the Program

[edit]
  • Four lecturers from Nigerian tertiary institutions are selected and undergo Wikipedia training (in person) for three days.
  • After the three-day training, the lecturers will identify ten students from their institution participating in a month-long training with a strong mentoring component.
  • The four lecturers will focus on three courses (one course per lecturer). e.g., sciences, social studies, art and entertainment, and technology.
  • The lecturers will assign articles to participating students using the Wikimedia Outreach Dashboard and review their work when completed.
  • The students will engage one another in a joint review of topics, and marks are awarded to students (or groups of students) based on their different outcomes.
