Wiki for Minorities/Minori-Ties Programme/Greenland Project

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The Greenland Project aims to preserve content related to the culture of Greenland within Wikimedia projects, while also supporting the ongoing development of the Greenlandic Wikipedia. The Greenlandic community is considered a minority both in terms of population density within Denmark and in relation to the small number of individuals residing in mainland Denmark. In light of the proposal to close the Greenlandic Wikipedia of 2024, we believe it is prudent to offer some form of support to this community. The Greenlandic language is actively spoken by almost all residents of Greenland, making it a living language with enough potential to remain in Wikimedia projects.

Objectives

[edit]
  • Ensuring the existence of the Greenlandic Wikipedia.
  • Contribute to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Greenlandic people by creating content on Wikipedia or uploading media files, such as photographs and videos, to Wikimedia Commons.
  • Empower the Greenlandic community within the Wikimedia movement to independently create and share their own content.
  • Foster collaboration among individuals interested in preserving minority cultures and languages within the Wikipedia movement, with a shared focus on the preservation of Greenlandic culture and language.
