Wiki Loves Latinos 2025: Celebrating Afro-Caribbean Music and Heritage is an annual global contest celebrating the richness of Latino culture. This quarter's edition will highlights Afro-Caribbean music and heritage, a vital and underrepresented aspect of Latino identity. Through Wikimedia platforms, we aim to document and amplify the stories, traditions, and influence of Afro-Caribbean contributions to Latino culture.

Mission

To bridge knowledge gaps about Latino culture, particularly the Afro-Caribbean experience, by creating a multilingual repository that celebrates diversity, fosters cultural pride, and elevates underrepresented stories, both in English and Spanish.

Vision

To document and share the vibrant traditions and histories of Afro-Caribbean communities, enhancing global appreciation for their contributions to Latino culture.

Objectives

The primary objectives of this edition of Wiki Loves Latinos 2025 are:

  • Create or improve 1,000 articles on Afro-Caribbean music, heritage, and notable figures.
  • Highlight Afro-Caribbean traditions through multimedia contributions across Wikimedia Commons, Wikibooks, and Wikivoyage.
  • Engage contributors from Afro-Latino and broader Latino communities to participate in cultural documentation.
  • Promote awareness of the Afro-Caribbean roots of Latin music and culture, fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Scope

Contributors are encouraged to focus on the following themes:

  • Musical Heritage: Salsa, merengue, boogaloo, reggaetón, and bachata origins, key artists, and cultural impact.
  • Historical Figures: Biographies of Afro-Caribbean musicians, dancers, and cultural leaders.
  • Artistic Contributions: The role of Afro-Caribbean art, poetry, and dance in shaping Latino identity.
  • Traditions and Festivals: Afro-Caribbean-inspired Latino festivals, rituals, and community events.

Latinos in the US: Contributions of Afro-Latinos to American culture, emphasizing their influence on arts and activism.

Articles outside this scope may be accepted as long as they contribute to a broader understanding of Latino heritage.
