According to UNICEF, over half of the world's children experience severe violence. It is estimated that 64 per cent of these children are in South Asia. In the same article, they also clarified that not only for the victim but also for anyone who witnesses the violence, the best way to address violence is to prevent it. But it is noteworthy that as part of an encyclopedia, no initiative has been taken to introduce child abuse and neglect to Wikipedia communities in the region. So, for the first time, we are organizing Wiki Loves Children on Bengali Wikipedia and Wikibooks.
Wikibooks has a project for children called Wikijunior, but is currently almost inactive in several projects. Therefore, we have included it in the project with the aim of enriching and expanding its use in online learning activities for junior students. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic period it can play a vital role in online learning and we will try to make Wikibooks (especially Wikijunior) a child-friendly alternative to Wikipedia.
Rules
Applicable rules for Wikipedia edition-
The article is newly created by you (i.e. not expanding stubs)
The article should be at least 3,000 bytes and at least 300 words in length. (excluding infobox, templates, etc.)
The article must fulfill the notability criteria.
The article must have decent references; doubtful or controversial statements in the article should be verifiable by the citation(s) listed in that article.
The article must not be purely machine translated and should be properly copy edited.
There must be no major issues with the article (no copyright violations, questions of notability, etc.)
There should be no copyright infringement and notable problems.
Editors who submit multiple instances of copyright violations may be disqualified from the editathon.
The article should not be a list.
Exception: Creating a list that becomes a featured list counts. (Only applies in Wikipedias that have featured lists.)
The article should be informative about any topic related to Children.
Judge(s) from each language Wikipedia will determine whether an article is accepted or not for their language Wikipedia's contest.
Articles submitted by an organizer/judge need to be checked by other organizers/judges.
When you create 3 articles that fulfill the above rules, you will receive an Appreciation Certificate.
Applicable rules for Wikibooks edition-
The book/page is newly created or expended by you. A new original book/book page can be created or translated from another language.
The book/page must be readable to children from the age of 12 years.
The book/page must not be purely machine translated and should be properly copy edited.
There must be no major issues with the book/page (no copyright violations, questions of notability, no doubtful or controversial statements etc.)
There should be no copyright infringement and notable problems.
Editors who submit multiple instances of copyright violations may be disqualified from the editathon.
The book/page will not be accepted if it is purely machine translated or written in a tone that is unsuitable for children.
Book/pages submitted by an organizer/judge need to be checked by other judges/organizers.
Judge(s) from each language Wikibooks will determine whether an book/page is accepted or not for their language Wikibooks's contest.
When you create 3 pages that fulfill the above rules, you will receive an Appreciation Certificate.
