Wiki Loves Butterfly in North-East India (WLB-NEI)

The overall purpose of Wiki Loves Butterfly in North-East India project is to increase the amount of free license materials regarding the butterfly species available in North-East India and related documentation and photographs in Wikipedia articles (Bengali language) in this regard and particular documentation of butterfly species of North-East India to be contributed in Wikispecies and Wikidata.

The WLB-NEI project further aims at broad spectrum of outreach program, knowledge sharing and interest generation among people about the way and means of butterfly as well as of Wikipedia, Wikimedia commons, Wikidata (the Wikimedia movement as a whole) by way of contributing quality images on butterfly related events to Wikimedia Commons and quality articles to Wikipedia involving more uses as we have done earlier in WLB project. Apart from that the Wikimedia movement and local communities will gain visibility and impetus through the success of this WLB-NEI project.

Big Butterfly Month India 2020

India has celebrated September 2020 as Big Butterfly Month. Research Institutes, Universities, Colleges, NGOs, Organisations,  all over the nation came under a single banner and worked together for the betterment of butterflies. People throughout the country participated in various activities like joined in the webinar on numerous topics of butterflies,  butterfly counting, documenting, butterfly photography competition, butterfly life cycle competition, butterfly drawing and origami competition for kids, butterfly essay competition, poetry on butterflies and many more. As a co-organiser of Big Butterfly Month event, Wiki Loves Butterfly organised one webinar on 15th September 2020. One hundred sixty participants all over the country registered for the talk. Sourabh Biswas delivered a session on Adult Butterflies Food Preferences as a representative of WLB. The session was also broadcasted live over WLB Facebook page. It was a grand success as participants were satisfied with the content and showed interest toward WLB and Wikimedia Commons. As an immediate effect, Ruksha Lewangh, a research scholar from Arunachal Pradesh, joined WLB.
