Two official languages in Israel is Hebrew and Arabic, while in addition, English is extensively spoken as semi-official language. As a linguistic and multicultural country, there are 33 languages and dialects spoken in Israel. In 2010, the internet penetration in Israel is 67.2% or 4,941,878 people having internet connection in that year.[1]

Wikimedia Israel is the country's national chapter.[2] Women are members of and actively participate in the country's Wikimedia chapter.

According to Alexa, Wikipedia ranked 7th of the most popular website in Israel.[3] In December 2011, Hebrew Wikipedia ranked 33th out of 284 Wikipedias in the world, with 129 very active contributors and and 693 active contributors.[4][5] In December 2011, there were 4,140 women of all ages from Israel who were interested in Wikipedia on Facebook.[6] There are 3 categories and 1 article about women's basketball in this country on English Wikipedia. There are 2 articles about women's basketball teams in this country on English Wikipedia. There are 3 articles about women's basketball teams in this country on French Wikipedia. There are 0 articles about women's basketball teams in this country on Japanese Wikipedia. There are 17 articles about women's basketball teams in this country (he:קטגוריה:קבוצות כדורסל נשים) on Hebrew Wikipedia. There is 1 article about women's association football clubs in this country on English Wikipedia. There are 36 articles about models from this country on English Wikipedia. In the period between November 2010 and October 2011, 0.6% of the traffic to Russian Wikipedia, 2.6% traffic to Arabic Wikipedia, 24.6% traffic to Yiddish Wikipedia, and 94.7% of traffic to Hebrew Wikipedia was from this country.[7] On Spanish Wikipedia, there are 6 articles about models from this country. On Slovak Wikipedia, there is 1 article about female actors from this country.[8]

A December 2011 search on English Wikinews for Israel Women found 49 articles that mentioned both words.[9] A December 2011 search on Spanish Wikinews for Israel mujeres found 19 articles that mentioned both words.[10]

There are no women from this country involved in leadership roles on English or German Wikiversity. Their participation is minimal to non-existent.

There is 1 man and 0 women on the language incubator who are use Hebew as their native language.[11]

During the December 2011 fundraising appeal, no Israelis, men or women, were featured are part of the appeal. During the 2011 Summer of Research, the WMF hired eight research fellows. Of these, only one was female, and she was from the United States. There were four males from American universities, The other researchers included men from a Japanese university, a Swiss university and a Canadian university. There were no research fellows, male or female, from this country.
