This program has been initiated by the Assamese Wikimedia Community to help and guide any newcomers who are interested in contributing to different Assamese Wikimedia projects. This initiative aims to encourage and support new contributors by providing them with the necessary guidance, training, and a welcoming environment to freely ask questions and seek assistance.
Through this program, experienced and active community members will mentor and guide new participants, helping them navigate the various Assamese Wikimedia platforms, such as Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wikiquote, and others. The mentorship will focus on building skills, fostering active engagement, and ensuring that new members feel confident in making valuable contributions.
This initiative will empower both mentors and mentees, fostering a stronger, more collaborative community, and help advance the growth and development of Assamese Wikimedia projects.
Interested mentors and mentees must register before 30 September 2024.
Selection will be based on the individual's commitment and interest in volunteering for Assamese Wikimedia projects.
Each mentor may guide up to three mentees. If additional mentees express interest, the mentor should coordinate and connect them with other mentors to ensure all participants receive adequate support.
Since the relationship between the mentor and the mentee will determine the success of this project, the mentor is encouraged to get to know the mentee before selecting them. It is recommended that the mentors discuss beforehand why the potential mentee is interested in wiki work, what projects they are interested in, how much time they can devote or what kind of help they need.
Active members across any Wikimedia project (Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wikidata, Wikiquote, etc.) who are interested in mentoring.
Mentors are not required to have specific technical expertise in any project. A willingness to guide, encourage, and support is the key for participating in this program.
Mentors are encouraged to share their knowledge and skills collaboratively. Mutual support between mentors ensures a comprehensive learning environment.
Throughout the duration of the mentorship, both mentor and mentee will continue to have regular contact, online or offline, depending on availability.
Wikiclasses and group sessions can be organized to facilitate joint learning across different topics and projects.
The mentee will choose to contribute to any project on the wiki.
The mentee will be responsible for participating in the entire duration of the mentorship (until December 31, 2024) if they join this project.
The mentee will make a plan in collaboration with their chosen mentor for the duration of the mentorship program with specific goals depending on their interest and availability.
During the mentorship period, the mentee will try to contribute to different wiki projects as much as possible.
Collaborative Learning: Mentors and mentees can participate in joint sessions, such as Wikiclasses, designed to provide comprehensive learning on core topics.
Community Engagement: Mentees will be encouraged to actively engage with the broader Assamese Wikimedia community through discussions, edits, and group activities.
Continued Growth: After the mentorship period, mentees can continue to contribute and potentially become mentors themselves in future programs.
The outcome of this projects will be assessed based on the global contribution of the mentees across all projects, i.e., Assamese Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wikiquote, Wikidata and Wikicommons at the end of the project (December 31, 2024).
At the end of the project, the following barnsters will be awarded to the mentees on the basis of contributions:
