[edit]Makumbusho means Museums in Swahili language and it's a new project launched on the 18th of May the International Museum Day in order to celebrate the museums in Africa. Makumbusho is an invitation to Wikimedians all over the world to participate in a global online edit-a-thon that aims to improve content about Museums in Africa.
Why?
[edit]African museums, compared with other museums in the world are maybe the less documented on the Wiki-projectsː
To date (18th of May 2020), 32% of the african museums (more than 200) are not on Wikidata!
On Wikipedia:
- 47% of the museums on Wikidata do not have an article on the English Wikipedia
- 66% of the museums on Wikidata do not have an article on the French Wikipedia
- 65% of the museums on Wikidata do not have an article on the Arabic Wikipedia
On Wikidata:
- 56% of the museums on Wikidata have no label in French.
- 58% of the museums on Wikidata have no label in Arabic.
- 50% of the museums on Wikidata do not have an image.
- 36% of the museums on Wikidata do not have coordinate location.
