Notes 1

[edit]
  • Tech editors overview
    • Round up to nearest hour
    • Task list
    • Asking for comments- backlog and need for additional reinforcements
    • Need Eric to follow up on creating staff email addresses under WikiJournal domain for tech editors
      • In the interim, provide access to the main email account to tech editors
    • Andrew to send background/orientation material to new tech editors
    • Check with Eric to determine what training was provided to first cohort of tech editors
    • Provide tech editors to Sarah Vital to assist with WikiJHum submissions
    • Under the guidance of peer review coordinators, tech editors will assist with identifying peer reviews via Web of Science, Google Scholar, Scopus etc.
    • Instruction for some process are available on wiki
    • Wikidata requires less technical wiki markup expertise but it’s crucial for the journal
    • DocuSign now available for documents relating to tech editor onboarding.
  • Tentative tech editor assignments:
    • WikiJMed: Stephnie, Michelle
    • WikiJSci: Emma, Peter
    • WikiJHum: Crystal, Iris, Natalie
    • Tech editors are not working in silos and confined to the journal that they are assigned to. They may be moved around due to workload, availability, etc.
  • Consider doing group training for new hires for editing
  • Inclusive-language manuscript, accessibility for diagrams

Notes 2

[edit]
  • Sarah provided information about tax forms to the new hires
  • OJS
    • Would authors submit text through OJS without wiki-code or is it wiki-ready?
  • Currently, we accept submissions in all formats (word, PDF, wiki code)
    • Shouldn’t reject based on the format, but rather the contents , but should encourage article submissions written in wiki format.
    • OJS should allow authors to still write their own articles online, like the current wiki system does.
  • Tech editors will need to declare on their User page in Wikiversity that they are paid for contributions.
  • Separate meeting needed for new tech editors on training
  • Check if old cohort of tech editors receive the meeting link to the monthly meeting
    • Mailing list might be out of date, since Mikael also didn’t receive the monthly meeting link
  • WikiJ.org was suggested as a centralized email address for tech editors and other editors
    • Through a vote, it was in favour of purchasing this domain at $12 USD/year
    • Mikael purchased it
    • New emails will be created through this
  • Payment system for tech editors
    • New payment system can only issue paper cheques
      • Issue was raised around mailing paper cheques (e.g. lost mail, transit time)
    • Old payment system requires Sarah to input payroll each week so that the invoice can be generated
    • Will discuss with other individuals to determine which payment system we will use
