This is a report of the activity and organizational structuring of the WikiJournal User Group for the period from May 31 2016 (recognition as a Wikimedia User Group) to December 31 2017.
The project has expanded in all aspects, particularly the participation in WikiJournal of Science. WikiJournal of Medicine has regained a steady article publication rate after having implemented stricter criteria on independent peer review by at least 2 independent experts.
Overall organization
[edit]- The WikiJournal Council (dealing with common interests of the journals) has expanded from 5 members [1] to 10 members [2].
- Registration as a non-profit organization in Sweden was made on October 23, 2017.
- Renaming from Wikiversity Journal to WikiJournal on Aug 31, 2016, after a name election.
- Major layout and formatting updates by Thomas Shafee
- Logos designed for all WikiJournals [3]
- Unified preprint system set up for article submissions. [4]
- Updates of the main article formatting template. [5]
- Templates for declined articles created.[6]
- 7 article publications in 2017 (including 1 editorial), compared to 1 in 2016.

- The editorial board has expanded from 7 members [7] to 10 members [8].
- 10 mentions in the media, including an article in Journal of Epidemiology and Public Health
- Citation metrics: Estimated impact factor of 1.4 for 2016. Altmetrics: 106 mentions as of 22 September 2017.
- Stricter processing, with a requirement of peer review of at least 2 independent medical experts for all publications, implemented January 2017.
- The editorial board has expanded from 3 members [9] to 16 members [10].
