Abstract:

Oral histories provide rich, authentic content and diverse perspectives, filling gaps in existing knowledge and enhancing Wikipedia articles with detailed descriptions, historical context, and personal stories.

Documentation Gap: There is a lack of comprehensive documentation of the weaving techniques, tools, and cultural significance associated with these traditions, which hinders their recognition and understanding.

Our project focused on the oral documentation of the traditional art of kente weaving, an essential element of Ghanaian cultural heritage. By capturing the stories, techniques, and experiences of kente weavers through oral history, we aimed to preserve and promote this intricate craft for future generations.

This session will highlight our approach to oral documentation, showcase the narratives we have gathered, and discuss the broader significance of preserving oral traditions.
