Abstract:
Though many people in Africa edit the English Language Wikipedia, as far as I'm aware we don't have many administrators there. I'm hoping to reduce that problem by talking about what administrators do, how people become administrators, why some people think that the RFA process is intimidating, and what the defacto standards are for adminship on EN wiki. |
Level of advancement: Medium. I'm going to assume that everyone in the audience has contributed at least a few hundred edits to Wikipedia. This doesn't have to be the English language Wikipedia, I have heard that adminship en Francais is similar. But I'm a Rosboef talking in English with very limited understanding of French.
Special requirements: I'm expecting to do this remotely, so it would help to have a moderator on stage.

How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region?
I'm hoping to convince some people at Indaba that while there appears to be a glass ceiling in Wikipedia's volunteer community, the time is right for a more racially diverse admin cadre on the English language Wikipedia. |
