Abstract:

Africa is home to a vast and diverse range of languages, many of which are endangered. These languages are not just important for communication, but also for preserving cultural heritage. When a language dies, so too does the knowledge and culture that is associated with it. Wikitongues is a non-profit organization that is working to preserve endangered languages around the world. In Africa, Wikitongues has worked with communities to document over 100 languages. This work has helped to ensure that these languages are not lost, and that the knowledge and culture they contain is preserved for future generations.

In this presentation, I will discuss the work of Wikitongues in Africa. I will talk about the challenges of preserving endangered languages, and how Wikitongues is working to overcome these challenges. I will also discuss the benefits of preserving endangered languages, both for the communities that speak them and for the world as a whole.
