WikiIndaba 2023/Report/Prithee P
Report on the Participation of Prithee P at WikiIndaba 2023 in Agadir, Morocco
Overview
[edit]Provide insights into your participation at the conference, including details about your contributions, experiences, and noteworthy encounters.
Attending WIkiIndaba is indeed a dream come true.
More than anything, Morocco was the best! I love citrus, and seeing them in Morocco made me really happy - I took some home. I enjoyed the desert. Furthermore, I fell in love with dates while I was there.
Encounters
[edit]I finally met Florence and Isla who I previously worked with on the Shesaid event in 2022. Additionally, I was able to bond with Bukola James, who is currently working with CFA and happened to be my roommate. This provided an opportunity to learn and gain knowledge.
Finally, I became acquainted with a few people, including Lucy, Mary Munkoyi, Justice, Ronnie, and Alex. I took African Growth Pilot earlier this year and finally meeting Asaf was a delight.
Another interesting thing for me was how nice and approachable the WMF staffs were, i.e Veronica, Yuk and her bestie (I forgot his name at the point of writing this), Jenny, etc.
Rosie and Cel have to be my favorites. Cecil (pardon me if I misspelled) was so cool - I call her the coolest Wikimedian I have met. Rosie on the other hand, sparked a fire in me. She also sat with me to discuss further plans and highlighted areas I could look into contributing to in the coming year.
To the persons I found friendship with, Roselyn, a representative from Creative Commons, and Rama, thank you for the laughs and encouraging me when I was so nervous about my Indaba presentation.
Outcome
[edit]What significant learning or outcome do you take away from your participation?
We spoke about the policies that regulate Wikipedia throughout the "Africa Agenda Prioritization Session" session. It was good to be included in this conversation, since it meant every voice counted at Indaba.
Of more significance, we spoke about potential solutions to the difficulties that African Wikimedians are now facing. This says to me, that we have been sensitive to the problems and obstacles our editors have encountered.
Impact
[edit]What impact the conference had on you and community plans, and what actions will you undertake to share learnings with your community?
The Afrosounds community will be having a meetup this year, and we will strategize on the plans to take place next year.
I met a few community leaders of WIkimedia hubs and user groups, and they are in talks about how to collaborate on a global project to bridge the gap in the music scene mid next year.
Anything else?
