Description

The Kusaal Wikimedia Community is relatively new Wikimedia community with a small number of editors. The community is yet to have an opportunity to have an in-person workshop or training with its members. The satelight event of Wiki Indaba 2023 will give us the opportunity to do just that. By this request, we intend organizing a satelight event of Wiki Indaba 2023 at Binduri in the Upper East region of Ghana to:

1. have a watch party of live streamed sessions of wiki Indaba 2023
2. help create awareness of the community and its quest to leverage on wikimedia projects to promote the Kusaal language on the internet.
3. recruit and train new editors on how to edit on Kusaal Wikipedia (incubator)
4. engage with and build the capacity of existing editors contributing to Kusaal Wikipedia incubator
5. hold an edit-a-thon to add or improve content in the Kusaal wikipedia incubator

Team

User:Musahfm is the the co-lead for the Kusaal Wikimedia Community and is applying for this micro-grant on behalf of the community. He provides trainings and technical support to the community. He has also organized a number of events including Wiki Loves Folklore 2023 in Ghana, Wiki Loves Earth 2022 in Ghana, Open Data Day event, Wiki Green Conference, etc. The Kusaal Wikimedia community currently do not have an organization account and would wish to receive the grant through an individual's account.

We are sincerely grateful for the time and effort you invested in applying for a micro-grant for WikiIndaba 2023. Your interest in contributing to this event is highly appreciated.

Unfortunately, we have to inform you that your application was not selected for the micro-grant. We received an overwhelming number of quality applications (77 applications for only 7 grants), which made the decision process extremely challenging. Given the constraints, our focus has been on projects from underrepresented communities or groups that lack on-site representation at the conference. The team decided therefore to provide the grants only to countries where there are no user groups at the moment.

Though your application was not selected, we greatly value your interest in WikiIndaba 2023.
