Description
[edit]Please add description of the request, with all the necessary details.
The Ghanaian Pidgin Wikimedians Community is a group of Wikimedians with a shared commitment to enriching and expanding the Ghanaian Pidgin Wikipedia and related Wikimedia projects. In April 2023, we received the exciting news that our proposal for a Wikipedia platform had gained approval from the Wikimedia Language Committee, marking a significant achievement in our journey.
We seek to organise a community meet-up as part of this year’s WikiIndaba Celebration to celebrate this remarkable milestone. Our event is designed to be both informative and engaging, reflecting our dedication to our mission and that of WikiIndaba Celebrations.
The meetup will provide us and our community members with an opportunity to come together, connect, and celebrate our collective achievements. This gathering fosters camaraderie among us, individuals who share a deep passion for the development of the Ghanaian Pidgin Wikipedia and its associated projects.
As part of activities for the meetup, we are committed to nurturing knowledge-sharing and inclusivity within our community. To achieve this, we will organise a workshop tailored for newcomers. This workshop will serve as a valuable educational foundation, offering insights, guidance, and resources to individuals who are just starting their journey as contributors to Wikimedia projects. We believe in providing a supportive environment for those eager to contribute to the growth of the Ghanaian Pidgin Wikipedia.
Our event goes beyond these core activities. We are excited to offer a live streaming of carefully selected sessions from the prestigious WikiIndaba conference. By doing so, we aim to expose our community members and event attendees to a wider range of perspectives, strategies, and experiences in the field of Wikimedia projects. This live streaming initiative reflects our commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest developments in the Wikimedia ecosystem.
Furthermore, we have arranged a unique opportunity for experienced Wikimedians who have attended Wiki Indaba to share their invaluable insights and experiences. The segment titled "My WikiIndaba Experience" will allow these seasoned contributors to recount their journeys, both in-person and virtually, at past Wiki Indaba gatherings. We hope that their stories will inspire and guide our community members, motivating them to deepen their involvement and contributions.
In summary, our upcoming event is not just a celebration of approval; it is a testament to our unwavering commitment to fostering knowledge, collaboration, and growth within the realm of the Ghanaian Pidgin Wikipedia and the broader Wikimedia community. It encapsulates our passion for linguistic diversity and the preservation of cultural heritage, while also serving as an educational platform for newcomers and a source of inspiration for seasoned members.
To support this event, the community will collaborate with the following organisations:
Open Foundation West Africa for logistical support, including camera and a projector. ISOC - Ghana Chapter for internet data.

Outcomes
[edit]Please provide a range or estimate for the number of participants the funding will support.
The funding we are seeking is intended to provide support for the participation of individuals in this community event. As a growing community, we aspire to have a maximum of 20 participants. It's important to note that this estimate includes not only external participants but also our own team members who will be actively involved in organising and facilitating the event.
Within this participant range, we have a specific goal in mind. We are dedicated to fostering inclusivity and welcoming newcomers to our community. Hence, we aim to ensure that at least 5 of the participants are individuals who are new to our community and its activities. Jury decision
[edit]Dear DaSupremo and colleagues from Ghanaian Pidgin Wikimedians Community,
We are sincerely grateful for the time and effort you invested in applying for a micro-grant for WikiIndaba 2023. Your interest in contributing to this event is highly appreciated.
Unfortunately, we have to inform you that your application was not selected for the micro-grant. We received an overwhelming number of quality applications (77 applications for only 7 grants), which made the decision process extremely challenging. Given the constraints, our focus has been on projects from underrepresented communities or groups that lack on-site representation at the conference. The team decided therefore to provide the grants only to countries where there are no user groups at the moment.
Though your application was not selected, we greatly value your interest in WikiIndaba 2023. To stay engaged and catch all the latest updates, we invite you to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and instagram. Additionally, we encourage you to subscribe to our YouTube channel, where we'll be sharing conference highlights and key sessions. We also suggest reaching out to your group members who will be participating in the conference, so they can share experiences and learnings with you.
Best regards,
Organizing Committee, WikiIndaba Conference 2023 -- WikiIndaba2021 (talk) 13:41, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
