- Abstract (maximum 500 words)
- The latest statistics regarding the spread of internet in India are very revealing. 100 million internet users, which is growing by leaps and bounds, thanks to increasing mediums of usage, such as mobile phones. A recent report by the Internet and Mobile Association of India claims that internet usage in rural India is set to double from 12 million users in 2010 to 24 million by December 2011.
What is driving this growth? I traveled to rural Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to find the answer to that exact question. What I discovered was both comforting and inspiring. A significant driving force is the tireless effort of companies such as Google and Intel, whose teams I joined as they went about conducting programs in the most interior regions of the states previously mentioned.
My presentation is a consolidation of this experience.
