Session 1: Introduction to the programme

  • Wiki In Africa
  • The Africa Gap : Why information is imbalanced about Africa online, and on Wikipedia
  • Consequences of this imbalance
  • Wikipedia and Wikimedia
  • What is GLAM
  • What is WikiAfrica Heritage
  • What are we hoping to achieve
  • What should you expect

Action items:

  • Register account
  • Look up coverage of your specialist area; compare to articles of similar areas or subjects
  • Suggest what information needs to be added, changed / create an action list of what resources, information and research is needed

Session 2: Wikipedia and GLAMs

  • Introduction to goals
  • WikiAfrica Heritage on Meta

Practical:

  • Registering, userpages and talk pages
  • Basic editing
  • Userpage creation
  • Adding names to Wikimedia Pages

Homework:

  • review articles relating to interests
  • compare to articles relating to their interests
  • review what photos are needed on articles using WikiShootMe tool
  • take images that might be needed (we will upload them in Session 3)

Session 3: What's covered and how

  • Place at least 10 images for WPWP campaign
  • Do a Userpage review of each others

Session 4: Building community through Photowalks

Focus of session:

  • Intro by User:Islahaddow: why photo walks, who to involve. Why it’s important for heritage.
  • Photo walk planning by [[ what to do. Plotting your walk. Wikishootme tool. What your walkers need to do before. What they need to bring with them. If they need to bring everyone back to an upload session? What tech and internet access and considerations they will need in order to upload images. Etc.
  • Walk through uploading an image - Isla - the quick version.  We can share the longer video.
  • Inserting images into articles - Ceslause - why, how to. Beyond the images from the photowalk.

Session 5: What are GLAMS and just what can we do?
