IdeaLab [[1]]

[edit]

Hi! It was wonderful to meet you at Wikimania, and I'm still very excited about the project you proposed at the IdeaLab workshop. I hope you don't mind, but I have started doing a bit of work on it, like we discussed. When I have been explaining the project idea, people seem to respond very well to the title "The Visual Gender Gap". How would you feel about changing the proposal name to this? As it is your proposal, it is entirely up to you, and anything I add that you are not comfortable with, feel free to remove/change. I discussed it with Wikimedia Community Ireland, and we are very excited about it's possibilities. Well done again on such a great idea! Smirkybec (talk) 12:34, 29 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello User:WS ReNu and User:Smirkybec, I also very much like the project idea. And like the name "The Visual Gender Gap", and would support moving the project idea to that name. Let me know how that I can help. Sydney Poore/FloNight (talk) 14:48, 29 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your messages User:Smirkybec and Sydney Poore/FloNight! Thank you so much for joining the project! And yes, it is so nice that we already met some interested people at the Wikimania in Mexico. Like you, I hope there will be more people feel invited to join (seen the invitation on Facebook!) and to participate in the project online the next steps. There will be a lot of work to do and we maybe find a way to give everyone a chance to get to new experiences and improve skills.
To the question of "How can I help" -I am fascinated by the idea that the parties may have the opportunity to try something new in a project like ours. And I orient myself to the idea that a Newbe z. B. takes over the design and a person who "could" theoretically it shaddowed and a third one pro provides the fallback safety. This opens up new forms of participation, which can have a positive impact in the project when people learn new sills. My vision is that we will achieve with the project even people who have not yet participated in the Wikipedia or a sister project, and take courage to do it. I wish that particular meeting novice to a welcoming culture - to it is sometimes important that the professionals "fallback" to offer collateral for the project, but also trust themselves to open up a new field of competence. In practical doing is then indeed recognized that people sometimes are vulnerable when they leave their personal comfort zone and go to a step further on in the personal learning zone. So that no one feels forced into located at the outer edge of the learning zone Panic zone, there are just rest assured that there are people for whom the respective tasks "usual" and are pleased to support you in word and deed. In short: Let's try something new times. Sydney Poore/FloNight, just think about what you would l i k e to do and which "job" you could shaddow and whom/which position/rule you could offer to be a "fall back" in urgend surch for solutions.
Since you've asked me for my honest opinion to the title of the project: I prefer to continue if we designate a part of the solution in the title and not focus on the problem. Therefore, it is more sympathetic to me if the title refers to the focus on the skills and competencies of women* and the possibility to visualize these - and so the results of the project might or can enrich the visual Wikiworld in a more positive way by wording from the very beginning? --WS ReNu (talk) 22:45, 29 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?

[edit]

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!

Here’s how to participate:

Take care,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 03:34, 5 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Future IdeaLab Campaigns results

[edit]

I'm happy to announce the results of your participation, and encourage you to review them and our next steps for implementing those campaigns this year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered time to participate and submit ideas.

With great thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 23:56, 26 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review

[edit]

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:38, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Open Call for Individual Engagement Grants

[edit]

Greetings! The Individual Engagement Grants (IEG) program is accepting proposals until April 12th to fund new tools, research, outreach efforts, and other experiments that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers. Whether you need a small or large amount of funds (up to $30,000 USD), IEGs can support you and your team’s project development time in addition to project expenses such as materials, travel, and rental space.

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources 15:57, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,
