Signature question
[edit]Hi Wes. Thanks for your response on Luis' talk page. By the way, this change of a signature timestamp is highly unusual. Can you explain? Thanks, --Pine✉ 03:59, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
- I was foolishly messing around with manual input, I liked how your time stamp glows green. Then realized time stamp was wrong. Should just have done the norm. Apologies. --WMoran (WMF) (talk) 15:07, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
Talk pages
[edit]Hi Wes, what are the plans to introduce, or not to introduce, the use of VE and/or Flow on talk pages on English Wikipedia? I am developing Grants:IEG/Motivational and educational video to introduce Wikimedia so I need to know what to expect in the foreseeable future for those possible interface changes. Personally, I would favor allowing VE on talk pages as an option, while keeping Flow only on projects where the communities support it. Thanks, --Pine✉ 22:34, 20 January 2016 (UTC)
- After speaking with the Editing team, the plan is to not support VE on talk pages. The short-term (6-12 months) view is to leave things as they are (with wikitext unstructured talk pages on the English Wikipedia and most other wikis), and make gradual improvements to Flow based on the feedback from the users on communities that support it.WMoran (WMF) (talk) 23:25, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
- Ok. I'm curious, what is the rationale for not supporting VE on user talk pages? The requirement that user pages use wikitext or Flow mean that new users who want to participate in some important community functions will still be required to learn some wikitext on our largest language Wikipedia (ENWP) even if the new users are proficient with VE. --Pine✉ 04:28, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
- The current rationale is a good editor for content is not necessarily a good editor for discussions and the current focus of the Editing team is to keep building a good editor for content as a primary goal. The VisualEditor team will present draft goals for Q4 kick off in late February, as well as strategic planning for the next year, so now is a good time to engage directly to the team so they get a good sense of the concerns. I will of course also pass along this discussion. Thanks Pine. WMoran (WMF) (talk) 17:10, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
- Got it. I'll be glad to engage with the editing team about Q4 goals. Thank you. (: --Pine✉ 00:03, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
